All Catholics have sinned
and had to face consequences for their action. Understanding why they
sin is a first step in avoiding sin.
Sin is
a universal problem. It what they all do and why they can't make a
decision not to sin and obey God?
St.
Paul expressed his frustration with sin:
"For
what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do
not practice; but what I hate, that I do" (Romans 7:15).
God
revealed guidelines for standard behaviour but they still sin.
Not every Catholic wants to sin, but they do.
St. Paul explained that when they sin, it is because there's something
inside them.
Our Lord said:
"Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is
willing, but the flesh is weak" (Matthew 26:41).
Their
appetites and needs can be met but with self control to avoid lusts and
desires.
Following the commandments of God taught by the Church helps them to
understand what is right and wrong and have responsibilities in their
lives.
They
battle with temptation everyday and get deceived by evil influencing
their mind and emotions. St. Peter advised them to be:
"Be
sober, be vigilant; because your enemy the devil walks about like a
roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the
faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brothers
in the world" (1 Peter 5:8-9).
Catholics confess to a priest so that they acknowledge their failings
and lack of self control. The priest take away their sins and gives it
to Our Lord who had to endure justice for their sins.
